Barcelona Survive Albacete Scare to Reach Copa del Rey Semi-Finals

Barcelona booked their place in the Copa del Rey semi-finals with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Albacete, overcoming spirited resistance from the Segunda División side in a tense quarter-final clash at the Estadio Carlos Belmonte.

The Catalan giants entered the tie as overwhelming favourites but were made to work for their progress as Albacete pushed them to the final moments of the match.

Barcelona took control midway through the first half when teenage sensation **Lamine Yamal** broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, showcasing his composure with a well-taken finish to give the visitors a deserved lead at the break.

The advantage was doubled shortly after the restart. Defender Ronald Araújo rose highest from a set piece in the 56th minute, powering home a header that appeared to put the contest beyond the hosts. The goal was particularly significant for Araújo, who delivered an assured performance on his return to the starting lineup.

However, Albacete refused to fade quietly. Backed by a passionate home crowd, they increased the tempo and were rewarded late on when Javi Moreno pulled one back in the 87th minute, setting up a nervy finale.

Barcelona thought they had sealed the match in stoppage time through Ferran Torres, but the goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR review, keeping Albacete’s hopes alive until the final whistle.

Despite the late pressure, Barcelona held firm to secure the win and continue their pursuit of domestic silverware, while Albacete exited the competition with pride after an impressive cup run.

The result keeps Barcelona firmly on course in their Copa del Rey campaign, though the narrow margin served as a reminder that knockout football leaves little room for complacency.
